BIOGRAPHY & PHILOSOPHY
MICHAEL G. STEWART is an award-winning third generation photographer and illustrator renowned for his musical portraiture. Since 1996, Michael G. Stewart has served as the principal photographer for the NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE TRADITIONAL ARTS. In addition, he spent many years as chief photographer for the off-beat arts newspaper QUIRKS, as well as maintaining a full time position as an architectural & aerial photographer with STEWART BROTHERS PHOTOGRAPHERS. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, Guitar Player, Discovery Channel Online, Strad, The Classic Motorcycle, Vintage Guitar, Chamber Music, The Washington Times, Just Jazz Guitar, Scoot Quarterly, and The Washington City Paper to name just a few. On more than 60 CD & Album covers, MICHAEL G. STEWART is credited as photographer or illustrator, with releases ranging from rock to tango, jazz to folk, classical to bluegrass. Besides his work as a photographer, MICHAEL G. STEWART is also an accomplished illustrator. He has collaborated with noted children's writer/entertainer BARRY LOUIS POLISAR on 3 successful books, as well as illustrating a guide to the Scottish steel string harp. Michael's latest publication is a coffee table book documenting the restoration of historic St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, D.C., A LANDMARK RESTORED. He is currently working with his son, diner historian & writer SPENCER STEWART on a book about Vintage Diners and Roadside Americana.
